Koll's timeless Duo Glide model wears this classic Porsche color effortlessly. What's not to love?
Study the pics of this beautiful Koll Duo Glide and the "I wish I owned this" Porsche, and you start to realize how much design language is shared between the two - graceful and elegant lines, the perfect balance of color and chrome, and probably most importantly - the way each conjures that instantaneous feeling of, "I gotta have that!!"
Some guitar makers have made car-themed guitars that are a little too on the nose for us (though we still appreciate those guitars as well), and to be sure, Saul Koll isn't out to make a car-themed guitar here.
This is more a case of being inspired by other timeless design, be it cars, architecture, jewelry, etc...and bringing that inspiration to bear on your guitars.
As the name mentions, the inspiration for this guitar's color from none other than Porsche. Even for the non-car enthusiast, the name Porsche has meaning and by using their beautiful Irish Green, there's already a lot being communicated here (Porsche = classic, beautiful, high performance, timeless, elegant...), and that's exactly how we are experiencing this guitar.
Looking beyond color choice to Saul's own design language, the Glide body shape is an original Koll design. Comfortable and well-balanced, the Glide shape has become a calling card of sorts for Koll instruments. It shares the same elegance and hint of rebelliousness as the Porsche pictured here - which is to say, you want to plug this beauty into the nearest Marshall and floor it.
With all these references to high performance cars, you can imagine that in the same way it'd be amazing to take that Porsche down a remote highway, this guitar is simply a blast to play. What's even cooler about Saul's guitars is that it'd be equally at home with Chet Atkins devotees as it would punk fans. It can be low-fi if you want that or really sophisticated a la Frisell if that's more your flavor.
