Who makes Guitarras Esteve and where are they built?

Guitarras Esteve has been handcrafting classical and flamenco guitars in Valencia, Spain since 1957 - the city at the heart of the Spanish guitar-making tradition. The workshop employs more than 50 skilled luthiers and is led today by Manuel Adalid Jr., continuing the family's commitment to time-honored construction methods alongside modern refinements. What is the difference between a classical and a flamenco guitar?

Classical and flamenco guitars are closely related but serve different musical traditions and are built accordingly. Flamenco guitars typically have lighter construction, lower action, and a brighter, more percussive tone suited to the attack and rapid articulation of flamenco playing. The tonewoods differ too: flamenco guitars traditionally use cypress back and sides (as in Esteve's 8F and 11F), which produces a drier, more cutting sound compared to the warmer rosewood used in classical models. Classical guitars generally have deeper sustain and a rounder, more singing tone ideal for the concert repertoire.

What is the Esteve Hauser model?

The Hauser model takes its name from Hermann Hauser I, the German luthier whose guitars - most famously the instrument he built for Andrés Segovia - are among the most revered in classical guitar history. An Esteve Hauser model is built in the spirit of that tradition, representing the top of Esteve's handcrafted line with concert-level construction, premium tonewoods, and the tonal character associated with the Hauser legacy. It is the instrument in our Esteve selection most appropriate for advancing and professional classical players.
