Sublime tone, incredible worksmanship, and the finest materials all add up to a truly world-class, collectible archtop.
Absolutely stunning archtop from Hawaii's Steve Grimes. Wow! With a rich, full, completely satisfying acoustic voice, this is is easily one of the finest sounding archtop guitars we have heard in recent memory. The DeArmond floating pickup proves a perfect match—lively, nuanced, with sustain to rival a great flattop, and wonderful single-note body and punch.
Of course, the visual appeal is undeniable, most notably the master-grade, quilted maple back, sides and neck. We love the intricate details like multi-ply ebony tailpiece and matching pickguard, five-ply colored wood purflings, abalone side dots set into a bound and purfled fingerboard. Everything in this design and its execution convey thoughtful intention, high attention to detail, and unrivaled skill.
Playability is excellent. Don't be intimidated by the 18" lower bout. The guitar sits comfortably on the lap, and once you play the guitar, you'll quickly forget about size, fancy woodworking, or anything else, for that matter!
From tonewoods to build quality, visual and tonal appeal, this 25th Anniversary model Grimes is a truly remarkable instrument for the player or collector alike.
