Wienman is striking a beautiful balance between vintage and modern tonalities, with looks to kill.
We are excited to have our first Wienman mandolin here in the shop! It has been a long time coming, as we have been hearing great things about Wes' builds for several years now. Well, the mandolin is here now, and boy does this one deliver as promised.
Made as a tribute to Will Wienman's '24 Loar, rather than a copy, per se, this T-24 features aged Adirondack spruce and Red maple pulled from Wienman's private reserve of premium tonewoods. Sonically, it impresses with a very satisfying, darker, full voice, very good responsiveness, and still plenty enough cut for our needs. While the aesthetic tastefully references a late-period Loar, playability leans decidedly modern, with a full, super soft "V" neck carve feeling quite comfortable in the right hands. Attention to detail is excellent, the spirit-varnish finish being a particularly attractive highlight.
Overall, this is a very well conceived and executed instrument, and an outstanding value in a handmade F-style mandolin. The praise Will and Wes' mandolins have been garnering over the last few years is well founded, to say the the least. This one is sure to please both seasoned, pros and aspiring, discerning players alike. We are happy to have Wienman on board!
