Martins from 1953 are often sought after for their "mystery" (i.e. non-Sitka) spruce tops; and this mysterious 000-18 would make anyone in the market for a small-bodied vintage guitar grin from ear to ear. The golden color of the top wood (as opposed to the orange-brown tone Sitka typically develops) and the punchy, crisp sound of this guitar have us agreeing with an esteemed colleague: there's no mystery about it, it's Red Spruce. This 000-18 is in very good condition; and it's original except for one tuning machine. There's lots of playwear evident, but no cracks and a solid structure. It's had a well-executed neck reset at some point in the past, and sports new fret wire. The setup is ideal for a mix of styles, measuring right at 3/32" high on top of the 12th fret. This guitar has a lovely, warm, and inviting voice; and the combination of Red Spruce top and straight bracing provides extra punch and projection for players who like to dig in assertively with a flatpick. Priced with Cedar Creek hard case (faux alligator exterior, orange interior).
