Combining features of the earliest 500/1 models with some of the Cavern Bass tonal flavor, this one-off Custom Shop 500/1 Violin Bass delivers signature Hofner tone with some serious class in the looks department.

If you're wondering to yourself "why haven't I ever seen a Hofner 500/1 quite like this?", it's because there actually isn't one quite like it! This is a one-off Custom Shop V58 500/1 model in a gorgeous Black finish with some unique features that really make it stand out among the average 500/1.

The most obvious difference is seen in the pickup type and spacing. This 500/1 was ordered with the Cavern Bass pickup spacing, favoring both neck and middle position pickups grouped together as opposed to the neck/bridge pickup spacing more commonly found on these basses. The "toaster" style pickups were also favored in place of the standard bar magnet style.

All other aesthetic touches give a nod to the true late 50s spec 500/1, with the oval control plate, silkscreen headstock logo, and shield tailpiece.

It's incredibly lightweight - coming in at 4lb 11oz on our scale - with a body constructed of a Spruce top with Maple back and sides. The pickups are full and warm sounding, with great fundamental and string-to-string balance. It's been very well maintained and remains in Excellent condition with only the lightest signs of prior ownership. It comes in its original custom shop hardshell case as well.
