The Growler shares a bit of its lineage with the slab mahogany body double cut of the late 1950s and early 1960s, but adds a level of refinement and individuality that undoubtedly sheds any notion that it's just another take on an old Gibson.

The chambered Rainbow Poplar body is capped with beautifully figured bookmatched Rainbow Poplar, finished in a gorgeous gloss-top nitrocellulose Tobacco Sunburst finish. The Sunburst is more of a two-tone style, with a dark edge that transitions into a nice lighter yellow, highlighting the natural contrast of the bold striping in the Poplar.

The Medium C carve neck profile is reminiscent of some of the 63/64 era Gibson neck carves, albeit it with a much smoother taper and leaner shoulders. This neck plays fast without losing some of the fullness we appreciate in bigger necked guitars. Trevor has found a great home base of sorts in his neck profile, in what can only be described as an "everyman" neck. Just the right amount of thickness, shape, and taper to appeal to almost any player.

We're no strangers to Gemini pickups, but we're experiencing these Mosrite models for the first time; if we have any say in the matter, they most certainly won't be the last. These humbucker-sized single coils have the fatness of a P90 and the sweet, bloomy warmth of a CC, yet they are neither pickup. In this long-scale all-Poplar Growler, they respond beautifully to the guitar's fundamental acoustic tone. Clarity isn't lacking here, but we don't notice an emphasis on zing or top end presence. It feels like these pickups respond to both light and heavy attack very evenly and with great balance.

Balancing familiarity with freshness is a tough task, but somehow Trevor seems to have a firm grip on the process. The combination of elevating his use of beautiful woods while pushing the sonic and tonal qualities of his guitars to new heights - all without compromising brand identity - is admirable to say the least. From the Growlers that came before to this newest 2025 build, we're reminded of just how great these guitars are.
