The Tele Plus has become a cult classic, no doubt due to the use of Radiohead's Johnny Greenwood.
Why We Love This
From 1990 through 1995, Fender produced the modern-leaning Telecaster Plus, a logical outgrowth of Fender's Stratocaster Plus line, which had been released in 1987.
The Plus line of guitars saw Fender breaking from tradition by featuring some of the top advancements of the day - Lace Sensor pickups and Fender's TBX tone control (“Treble Bass Expander”) specifically - with the goal being added versatility vs a vintage style Fender could.
Players like Johnny Greenwood of Radiohead have certainly helped keep the Tele Plus on people's radar, and for good reason. Sure, Tele purists might want to look elsewhere for their twang fix, but players interested in exploring modern, heavier tones will find lots to like here (heavier than a Tele into a Deluxe Reverb, that is). The Lace pickups deliver fatter, more powerful tones with no 60 cycle hum - nice!
