If it's been a bit since you last played a Thinline we think you'll be mighty impressed with the ones Fender's Custom Shop is producing these days. Dare we say...magical?
Thinline Telecasters have long been one of our favorite Fender guitars. They're incredibly lightweight, responsive, and fatter / puncher sounding than their solid-body brethren (which we also love dearly). Make it a '72 style with a pair of Cunife Wide Range Humbuckers? We're in.
This Bleached 3-tone sunburst '72 Thinline features a gorgeous 2-piece hollow Ash body and quartersawn maple neck. We found the 60s Oval C carve (.85-.92"), along with a 9.5" radius, to be immediately comfortable. It's a carve we believe a wide range of players will be right at home on.
Plugged in? We never fail to fall for a great set of Wide Range Humbuckers. They have such a cool mix of a humbucker's heft, if you will, that bigger, fatter sound - but they never forget their Fender roots which we hear in their articulate, beautiful top-end. This Thinline utilizes a RSD chopped Tele bridge with barrel style saddles which definitely helps impart more Tele twang. Clean? Gorgeous. It'd be hard to think of a style (save for metal maybe) that these wouldn't work for. Overdriven? Can you say Rich Robinson? It's that sort of overdriven tone. Old-school rock n roll and/or blues. It's a phenomenal ride to be sure!
