Let's get this out of the way from the start - this is a fantastic Strat, and an even better example of where the Custom Shop is these days. In our experience, the Fender Custom Shop is making outstanding instruments that rival the best small shop boutique builders. Trust us, we've played them all.
Ok, now that we've gotten that out of the way, what are we looking at here? This is a limited '62/63 Stratocaster in a very authentic Journeyman relic Surf Green. This level of relic focuses on finish checking, aged guard, aged plastics, and a few light dings here and there on the body. The back of the neck is untouched which ups the authenticity.
What has really knocked us out is the rift-sawn maple neck, which sports a ’63 “C” profile, round-lam rosewood fingerboard, 7.25”-9.5” fingerboard radius and 21 medium vintage frets. It's a very authentic shape that feels quite a bit like the many early 60s Strats that have passed through the shop over the years - the resonance, snappiness, and of course, the plugged in tones. From Fender...

Created in the Fender Custom Shop, this road-worthy stage companion features Custom Shop hand-wound ’60/’63 Strat pickups, which are wound to the exact specs from those formidable years that burned the Stratocaster into the history of music forever. Other features include five-way pickup switching, vintage synchronized tremolo and tuning machines, bone nut and wing string tree with metal spacer. Lastly, the vintage modified #2 wiring with tone-saver treble bleed gives you the ability to roll off volume without losing highs.
