An exquisite, violin-styled round hole mandolin for the modern player.
Why We Love This
A brilliantly crafted and exceptionally strong voiced, violin-styled mandolin. Toole's luthier pedigree is evident in the design. His build features violin-grade tonewoods on a large, rounded teardrop body with overhung edges and a circular soundhole, finished in a thin oil varnish.
Sonically, take the best vintage, oval-hole sound and give it more punch in the low end and nicer body to single notes, particularly in the vocal mids and treble register. Playability is second to none; especially if you are coming from a vintage mandolin, you will be blown away by how easy this instrument is to drive.
Despite the classic violin styling, in many ways Patrick's instruments seem much more forward looking. For the fingerboard and bridge he employs Sonowood, a Swiss made, sustainable wood, and for the tuners, Patrick worked with Rubner to spec out a very elegant, custom four-on-a-plate tuner set that sets a new standard in modern mandolin tuners. If it isn't already clear, we love the sound, feel, and the aesthetic of these instruments.
