These guitars have been sitting quietly in Taylor’s prototype vault since 2021, and we’re thrilled to finally offer them for sale. Once they’re gone, that’s it!

In early 2021, Andy Powers and the Taylor design team set out to explore new ground: a hollowbody electric guitar built around fresh ideas. The result was 50 CrossTone prototypes, crafted from a mix of tried-and-true parts and some bold, experimental components - the precursor to Powers Electric A-Type!

The CrossTone blends magnetic and crystal pickups, unlocking a palette of tones you simply can’t get anywhere else. Strung with flat-wound strings and Andy's use of foam around the saddle - think rubber bridge guitar - this guitar has a tone and feel unlike anything in the Taylor lineup. Plugged in, we were able to pull cello like tones from its muted / attenuated attack and sustain. The creative possibilities just start flowing. Put simply, we have a BLAST playing this Crosstone and were blown away by how cool it is!

What's hard to gleam from a web listing is just how fun this guitar is to play. It feels compact in hand, lending to an effortless playing experience with great touch sensitivity and dynamic range.
