The model that put Taylor firmly on the map!

In 1994, Taylor Guitars celebrated their 20th Anniversary by introducing a pair of stunning limited edition guitars that heralded their new body shape, the Grand Auditorium. It didn't take long for the GA to totally dominate their sales line and reveal an unspoken hunger in the guitar world for a full-bodied model that was not a dreadnought! By 1997, the GA was offered in everything from their 500 to the 900 series. The 714 model at that time came with a lovely western cedar top and occasionally a limited offering, like the one currently for sale, in Brazilian rosewood.

Since that time, Taylor has introduced numerous innovations into their production methods, from the NT (New Technology) neck joint to V-class bracing. This early 714 Brazilian has none of those features. No matter what camp you're in--new or old Taylor--you'll find a lot to love in the tone and responsiveness of this guitar. It's much fuller and has far more harmonic complexity than one would expect. Is it the age? The Brazilian? Or is it just that Taylor made a lighter guitar back then? We'll let you be the judge. It does make us wonder if Taylor may have room in their future lineup for a "Traditional" build series.

The condition is very good with only a couple of small dings in the top. Setup is excellent (another plus for their old neck joint) and fret wear is minimal. Equipped with a LR Baggs under saddle pickup with Gold strap jack.
