It is hard to overstate the importance of Sobell's mandolin family instruments to the sound of the latter Celtic neo-trad musical revival. One strum and we are instantly transported!
It has been years since we have seen a Sobell octave mandolin come through the shop, much less a five-course cittern! The Sobell sound is all there: that rich, cedar-and-rosewood warmth, wit a dark, complex bass and overtone-rich highs. It is an absolute blast to play. The relatively short scale length makes a world of difference for those left-hand fingerings.
Equipped with an on-board mic as well as a lightweight soundboard pickup, both of which sound great on their own, and exceptionally good blended, easily one the best amplified octave mandolin/cittern/'cello tones we have ever heard.
Currently set up (low to high): DGDAE, but can be setup with a low C course, and will accommodate a range of other tunings, with the lower strings in either unison or octave courses.
This cittern comes to us in very good condition. A couple of repaired top cracks, otherwise normal wear for a well traveled instrument.
Priced with custom case and mic preamp.
