The Pterribird makes no secret about its influences and we have zero beef with that. More than a simple mashup of a Tele and a Firebird, Thomas Rodriguez has included plenty of thoughtful details that make this a really cool, really unique build.
The Pterribird makes no secret about its influences and we have zero beef with that. More than a simple mashup of a Tele and a Firebird, Thomas has included plenty of thoughtful details that make this a really cool, really unique build - a lightweight Honduras mahogany body (check out the raised center section for some gorgeous detail work), bolt-on maple neck with a bound rosewood fingerboard & 24.9" scale (1 5/8" mastodon ivory nut), Callaham bridge w/compensated saddles, and a Fralin Firebird neck pickup and SP bridge pickup (which is really a P90 pickup in Tele form).
Visually, we absolutely love the way these elements come together in a nod to the past while also creating something entirely new. Tonally? This guitar maintains a surprising amount of Tele twang, but with a fatter, musical midrange thanks to the Fralin SP bridge pickup. The Firebird pickup delivers classic single coil-like bite and clarity which pairs nicely with the fat, midrange rich bridge pickup.
We count ourselves as very lucky to work with the caliber of builders we represent - the best of the best. We can say, without hesitation, that we're honored to represent Thomas Rodriguez and his incredible work. A master builder whose guitars are not to be missed.
