Beatles, Townshend, Petty, The Jam, Fugazi fans...don't let this one pass you by. This is a no excuses example of an all-time rock n roll classic!
For our money, there aren't too many guitars cooler looking (or sounding) than a Rickenbacker, and this beautiful fireglow 330 makes a strong case.
As expected, it sounds gorgeous plugged in. Chime, chime, and more chime. While some folks prefer Rickenbacker's 'toaster pickups', we actually prefer the 'hi-gain' versions which are what you'll find in this example.
That name is somewhat misleading though - at least if you were playing guitar in the '80s. High gain in that context meant active EMGs with, as the name implies, copious amounts of gain and compression. This is a different thing altogether. They're clear, open, and jangly sounding, they just have a bit more oomph behind them, so to speak, which we like (we dig when the pickups do a little bit of the work).
Plug into the closest AC30 style amp and you're going to find yourself doing your best George Harrison impersonation, or perhaps a Townshend windmill or two. The setup is great and makes for an easy playing guitar.
