Early, handmade A4 style from renowned builder Don MacRostie—a lovely, full sounding oval hole from the man who would go on to establish the vaunted Red Diamond moniker.
Here is a special one: an early, oval-hole mandolin from Don MacRostie, who would go on to adopt the Red Diamond moniker. As you would expect from a renowned, world-class builder, this is a punchy, loud mandolin with a warm, full voice, big dynamic range, and nice sustain.
The Cremona sunburst top and "Diamond"-and-stitch engraved tailpiece cover recall the look of a '20s Gibson, while MacRostie's use of elongaged headstock with whimsical falling leaves inlay, the elevated fingerboard, and employment of an X bracing pattern all suggest an assured, confident builder with his own ear and eye for design.
This is a very fun mandolin to play, sounds great, and would be an ideal candidate for old time, celtic or folk jams. Priced with what is likely the original hard case.
