The newest edition to the A-Type lineup finds Andy Powers exploring the simple beauty of a hardtail bridge.
Released to wide acclaim in June of 2023, the Powers Electric A-Type was the realization of Andy Powers' vision of the perfect electric guitar.
Featuring a lightweight offset Urban Ash body - with or without a flamed or quilted maple top - and a one piece mahogany neck, the 24-7/8” scale A-Type has a lot more lurking up its sleeve than it might appear at first:
In-house pickups that utilize the Faraday cage concept to help reject environmental noise (ie, they're very quiet in operation); a uniquely radiused fingerboard where the E, A, D strings sit above a more curved fingerboard surface vs the G, B, and high E strings which sit above a flatter sufrace; in-house resin knobs and tremolo tip; a Camtail tremolo that stays in tune as you depress the bar; one of the nicest gig bags you're likely to encounter.
This year, Powers has unveiled a hardtail version for players who don't need a tremolo. In keeping with the remarkable level of detail and innovation, Andy didn't simply install a hardtail bridge and call it a day. These bridges are made in-house and are designed to minimize unwanted overtones in addition to providing a very gentle string break angle across the bridge.
The result? A very lightweight, snappy, and slinky feeling guitar. We're loving the subtle changes to the playing experience the hardtail adds, and as advertised, it cuts down on errant overtones that are typically heard on two piece bridges. An exciting new addition to the A-Type family!
