This 1971 Martin D-18 was just taken in on trade; and it'd be a great first vintage guitar for a bluegrass flatpicker. Is is blasphemous to call a Martin made in 1971 "vintage" -- perhaps. But a guitar that's more than fifty years old has a dry, openness of sound that no new guitar will have. And when it comes to bluegrass rhythm playing, this guitar packs a very satisfying wallop when you're pounding out chords.
This guitar has had a well-done neck reset in the recent past, and it sets up beautifully with stock Martin saddle height and medium gauge strings. The pickguard has been replaced, and the finish has been buffed, making it appear a bit glossier than it otherwise might appear. There is some light finish crazing, and a smattering of dings and scrapes, but no cracks and a sound structure. Priced with non-original hardshell case.
