This Martin D-18 Authentic 1939 is just into the shop on trade! The 1939 variant of the D-18 Authentic incorporates the key features of a post-1938 "pre-war" Martin -- most notably, a rear-shifted X brace and a narrower, 1 11/16" nut width. The rear-X platform provides an arguably more balanced voice, tempering the boominess of a 1937-style guitar without sacrificing low end power and presence. This particular guitar is screamingly loud when played aggressively with a flatpick; and it exhibits the beautiful, woody sound of a broken-in guitar that's had its initial brightness played off.
We rate this D-18 Authentic in very good overall condition. It's been played, but remains almost entirely free of any wear. There are a couple small pick indentations on the top, only visible in reflected light; and one noticeable ding on the back, visible in a similar manner. The frets are clean, and exhibit no significant wear. The setup is excellent: action at 3/32" (bass side) and 2/32" (treble side) under tension of medium strings, with just a whisper of neck relief. Price includes the guitar's original Harptone hard case.
