This 1935 Martin 000-18 is going to make someone in search of fabulous tone at a below-premium price very happy. The guitar has clearly lived a colorful life; and it's been played a lot (as evidenced by the wear on the top and the back). It was produced in a narrow window of time when small-bodied, style-18 Martins got a Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard & bridge ~ and we do think there's a certain warmth of tone (and mellowness of note attack) that accompanies these features. This guitar's voice is pure, 1930's Mahogany & Spruce Martin -- dry and woody, with great clarity & note separation accompanied by a gorgeous, shallow decay (as if there's a mini reverb tank built into it). As far as sound goes, the guitar gets our highest marks; and it bears repeating that we think anyone interested in a golden-era 000-18 would be very pleased with it.
Condition: overall, we'd call it "very good" on the scale of vintage guitars. The play wear on the top has been oversprayed long ago, as have several small side cracks (one of which is covered by the small radio station decal pictured in our photo gallery -- though there's a charm factor that makes it almost forgettable). Recently, a neck reset and re-fret were performed by TJ Thompson, who also installed a new bridge. The guitar plays beautifully up and down the neck, with action at 3/32" (bass side) and 2/32" (treble side) under tension of light gauge strings. All internal components (bracing & bridge plate) are original and in good shape. The guitar is priced with a Canadian-made Calton Case. On consignment; expedited shipping required. Payment requested by check or wire transfer.
