There's always been a connection between cars and guitars, no doubt centered around an overlap of lifestyles - read: there's something sexy and undeniably appealing about either and you know it when it's before you.
The other connection is centered around great design which transcends industries and mediums. Cars, architecture, watches, guitars, doesn't matter - great design communicates beauty in a way that is timeless and meaningful.
So what does this have to do with this Koll Duo Glide? For starters, Saul Koll - keeping with guitar color choice tradition - has drawn inspiration for this guitar's color from none other than Porsche. Meaning, there's already a lot being communicated here (Porsche = classic, beautiful, high performance, timeless, elegant...), and that's exactly how we are experiencing this guitar. It's incredibly beautiful and timeless looking, isn't it?
Beyond color choice, the Glide body shape is an original Koll design. Comfortable and well-balanced, the Glide shape has become a calling card of sorts for Koll instruments. It shares the same elegance and hint of rebelliousness as the Porsche pictured here - which is to say, you want to plug this beauty into the nearest Marshall and floor it.
As you'd suspect, this guitar is simply a blast to play and the Lollar Regal Goldfoils sound fanastic. It'd be equally at home with Chet Atkins devotees as it would punk fans. It can be low-fi if you want that or really sophisticated a la Frisell if that's more your flavor. The fit, finish, and setup are spot on and we really love this neck carve. The medium C shape has the perfect balance of girth and width - think Gretsch crossed with a 60s Gibson.
Again, floor it and go!
