If you're in the market for an exceptional rethink of a Les Paul Jr/Special, or just an exceptional electric guitar period, you really owe it to yourself to check out a Huber!
Why We Love This
Nik Huber and his small team make exquisite and extremely consistent instruments in their Rodgau, Germany shop. There is a simplicity and focus to his builds that is apparent from the moment you pick one up, though don't be deceived by the word "simplicity". You can just sense the amount of skill and restraint required to execute a build like this (see: neck joint).
This gorgeous 2020 Krautster II sports a few features that tip it into the 'Custom' category - a flamed maple top, 4 knob control layout, mahogany neck, and trapezoid inlays. Everything else we love about a Krautster is here - a splittable Haussel made humbucker combined with the Haussel P90 neck pickup - which yields a ton of different tones from classic rock, Tele-esq twang to fat, jazzy neck tones are on tap.
This isn't the type of guitar that covers a bunch of ground though none particularly well - this guitar sounds stellar no matter what you're trying to coax from it. In this way it's a very inspiring guitar to play.
