The Forager model hits on many design cues from Fender to Rickenbacker, all while keeping in line with distinct originality and artistry we've come to appreciate from Healy..
Why We Love This
Healy's newest model carries with it some influence from the lovely sofftset (yes, I made that word up) Healer design, but evens out the lower bout along with reshaping both bass and treble side horns. Think tele on the bottom and a little dash of Rickenbacker 360 up top, but still slim and slender the way many great offsets shape out. With its flat top and slightly radiused body edge along with an almost invisible back contour for added comfort, it's supremely comfortable.
This particular Forager pulls in some of our favorite specs from past builds, including a satin/matte color top with natural back and sides. The contrast is quite striking and adds a touch of elegance without being too exotic. A beautiful Black top sets the table for some really nice and simple touches, like the custom 3-ply parchment pickguard that pops off the top while the black pickup surrounds blend in. Trevor's eye for design is identified in the use of the custom-made TK Smith knobs that were additionally painted in-house with a touch of gold on the vertical skirts to accent the brass saddles on the Descendant BCB bridge and headstock logo.
The hollowed out Korina body is incredibly lightweight while still maintaining great balance and a certain sturdiness likely attributed to the string-through design. Acoustic response is very lively on both wound and plain strings, with great fundamental sustain. The Firebird style pickups are handwound by Ohad Barbibay in-house, and they sound absolutely incredible!
The neck specs remain consistent with other Healy guitars we've had in the shop, hitting a sweet spot between the short-scale Kalamazoo-made and long-scale Fullerton-made guitars. A nice medium C carve with a smooth satin feel allows for some near-effortless playability.
There's a feeding frenzy around these guitars for a reason, folks! Incredible craftsmanship, unique designs, and standouts in the playability and tone departments. We're lucky to have such talented friends making incredible guitars right in our home state!
