The Mendocino model is as inviting and as comfortable as you'll find in a modern electric guitar, and in the case of this Black Top beauty, a true representation of the Grez aesthetic.

Why We Love This

Every time we get a guitar from Barry Grzebik of Grez Guitars we're tempted to say it's the most unique one, and we mean that sincerely. His guitars are always interesting and no two are ever quite the same. This gorgeous Mendocino is another in that lineage - and that's saying something considering the CA-based builder is known for building some gorgeous instruments.

This Black Top Mendocino follows some of lineage of a prior Mendocino we had in the shop, with a change in pickup configuration - in this case, Lollar Imperial humbuckers in lieu of gold foils. The slightly stripped down aesthetic allows the contrast of the top finish and natural Mahogany body to do all the talking here. It's very striking, especially at off-angles where you catch the guitar's silhouette showing off its contours. The slim F-hole adds a touch of that classic semi-hollow look while seemingly disappearing into the black top.

So, looks and specs aside, the Mendocino is simply the kind of instrument that makes you want to play more. It's beautifully made, has a wonderful medium profile neck carve with a slinky overall feel, and sounds amazing both unplugged and plugged in. It's also incredibly lightweight due to its chambered construction.
