Like an alternate-universe time capsule, this recent Gilchrist Model 4 captures all the magic of a Gibson F-4, brought to life by one of today's living master mandolin luthiers.
Well, now, we don't see these every day. We are excited to present this 2022 Gilchrist Model 4, an impeccably built, authentic tribute to a classic 1920s Gibson F-4. This is a rare opportunity to experience a late-model, scroll oval-hole build from one of today's acknowledged master luthiers.
It is hard to imagine what a new, top-of-the line Gibson F-4 would have sounded like as a new instrument, but this mandolin certainly gets the wheels turning. Of course, this mandolin has more authority on the open G string than most oval holes, with great clarity, articulate note-to-note separation and chime. As great as this sounds today, one can only imagine what this instrument is going to sound like after a few years of play, much less a few decades...
Cremona finish over a Red spruce top, paired with a one-piece slab hard maple back and matching sides. With a non-radiused fingerboard and .053" EVO frets, the feel matches the vintage Gibson aesthetic. This really is like playing an alternate-universe time capsule. What a treat.
Priced with the original Calton case with strap, picks, and a small keepsake photo book chronicling the build.
