This is the very first Sly semi-hollow electric model built by lauded master luthier, Gil Yaron.
Over the past few years, we've had the pleasure of taking in some of Gil Yaron's guitars. While they're all unique in a way due to Gil's build processes, this particular consignment piece is pretty special.
This is the very first Sly semi-hollow electric model built by Gil, featuring some top choice old growth woods throughout, hand-wound pickups, and a combination of a beautiful gloss top finish with a "zero finish" neck and body.
Tone and feel are the name of the game here, and this Sly is a testament to what a great builder can do to maximize that in a semi-hollow design. Sitting squarely between a Gibson ES-335 and an LP Special, you're quickly rewarded with the immediacy and chirp of a great set of P90s supported by an airy, acoustic-like response. Clean tones are bell-like with great warmth and body. Overdriven, the old-growth Mahogany body showcases its fat midrange response with a biting top end. The neck carve has a late 50s feel to it, with a medium-full C shape that's light on the shoulders, making it super comfortable up and down the neck.
