A 70s staple with signature rock tonality, this SG Standard delivers a refined aesthetic with an Ebony fingerboard and small block inlays without shedding the raw, biting power this classic model is known for.
What To Know
Just over a decade after its initial release as the "new" Les Paul model, this 1973 Gibson SG Standard represents an early Norlin-era evolution of the classic slim-bodied Mahogany sizzler, this time with some unique changes that make these particular variants stand out among the crowd.
In what we'd consider to be a truly great example - not only tonally but in its condition - these SG Standards have proven to be excellent Rock and Blues guitars with a distinctive punch and authority thanks to the Super humbuckers (also known as Tarbacks). The addition of the Ebony fingerboard replaced the long-used Rosewood certainly adds a little bit of snap and sizzle to the tone as well, allowing this SG to cut straight through a mix with ease.
At just over 7lbs, its nice and light with great resonance and sustain. It shows impressive low miles for a 50 year old guitar, with only light signs of play wear throughout, and original frets that aren't overly worn or flattened out. Paired with a more modern Gibson hardshell case (welcomed here, for additional protection), it's about as ready for action as you'll find one.
