Stellar bluegrass F-5 tone and artful aging in this limited-edition run inspired by Ricky Skagg's Loar-signed Gibson.
Why We Love This
While we can't promise you'll sound like Ricky Skaggs when you pick up the Distressed Master Model that bears his signature, this one sure will get you in the ballpark. Big chop, chimey top end, great pop—it's all there. But it's that lush, creamy midrange that makes this mandolin hard to put down. The narrower, rounded-V neck features a 1 1/32" nut and flat fingerboard, all of which will appeal to many traditional bluegrass players and anyone who likes a closer string spacing under the left hand.
A tip of the hat on the light distressing. The effect is subtle and quite beautiful. It really does present as if this were a vintage F-5. The neck feels great, with the "play wear" in the first position making for a silky, fast playing experience.
The limited-edition instrument—#6 of 30—includes an embroidered Small Dog case cover, photo of Mr. Skaggs with the instrument, an unopened Kentucky Thunder CD, and a Tone-Gard.
Overall condition is excellent. Please note: used instruments are, well, used. We pride ourselves on thoroughly vetting, and carefully photographing, each pre-owned instrument we sell, but many of them carry subtle signs of handling that can escape even the most discerning eye. If you have questions about the condition of this instrument, we invite you to call us for an in-hand description. We're here to help!
