Gibson Les Paul Custom, Black (1972)
LP-Style · Vintage
While clearly a player grade example by definition, this LP Custom has remained break-free with the original Black finish, along with the original bridge pickup and a fantastic sounding replica neck pickup wound by Brandonwound pickups. It features the original short lived Gibson embossed humbucker covers as well. Additional changes include installation of beloved Faber hardware (ABR-1 and Stopbar) along with tuner, wiring harness, and knob replacement. The guitar was also refretted with medium jumbo wire.
Changes aside, it's a truly excellent performer of a guitar. The slim neck with larger taper is a joy to play, and feels very nicely broken in with decades of play time to show for it. The pickups provide that quintessential "T-Top" tone of the later 60s and early 70s humbuckers - bright, fat, and articulate, with enough muscle to keep up with heavier rock and an airiness that supports more nuanced clean tones for R&B and the like.
