If we focus simply on tone, this is a lovely sounding instrument, with the inimitable dry, woody chime of a 60-year old Gibson (but with better responsiveness).
This 1934 Gibson L-00 was retopped and refinished at the Gibson factory circa 1960. The structure of the body assembly (and neck) is 1934; but the top is essentially what you'd find on a 1960 LG3 (Sitka Spruce, non-scalloped). As a consequence of the re-top, this guitar's sound is somewhat of a mash-up of 1930's airiness and 1960's punch & focus. If we focus simply on tone, this is a lovely sounding instrument, with the inimitable dry, woody chime of a 60-year old Gibson (but with better responsiveness).
This guitar was previously sold by our friends at Folkway Music, who performed a refret in addition to shoring up a pickguard cracks and hairline cracks on either side of the fingerboard extension. There's an old, repaired back crack as well, and a repaired center seam separation. The guitar is structurally sound, plays wonderfully, and requires no further attention at this time. Priced with a 1950's chipboard case. On consignment; shipping calculated at checkout.
