Product information

There is nothing quite like the sound of an old Gibson F-4 mandolin, and certainly no aesthetic rival in the history of the American mandolin.

Why We Love This

Woody and warm Gibson F-4 just in to the shop! This one comes to us from the family of the original owner, and has been lovingly maintained over the years. Tonally, this particular F4 leans on the rounder, airier side of things, with a harmonious, sweet, blended quality to strummed chords, and a lovely openness to single-string melodies.

It has been professionally refretted with modern (larger than original) frets, and a new nut installed to improve/correct 1st fret intonation. There are two old, very fine cracks on the neck and top, each expertly repaired and completely stable. Original Handel tuners, bridge, and tailpiece are present. Includes the original hard case!
