1981 marks the last official year of a 'Silverface' Fender, and this Princeton Reverb is a nice, clean example of the later period post-CBS low watt combos. While not as revered as a true Blackface Princeton Reverb, these amps still offer up a lot of the same tonal characteristics, especially when serviced by an amp tech who knows Fenders really well.
Thankfully, this one has been excellently serviced by our local amp tech Stan Day and is sounding great! The stock push-pull boost circuit was disconnected from the volume pot (a common, minimally invasive mod) along with a proper recap to get the PR closer to a Blackface spec. The 10" speaker is an aftermarket Japanese ceramic that mimics some of the low-power speakers that would've come with this amp from the factory - think later Oxford, Utah, or Eminence-made tones. Brighter with earlier breakup and nice low-powered punch.
60s Princeton Reverbs have been on a meteoric rise in price since the introduction of the reissue versions some 15 years ago, so the 70s and early 80s versions have become great values for someone looking to get a true vintage Fender combo without breaking the bank.
Condition: Very Good+. Very well-maintained with some light to moderate exterior wear and patina on the hardware. Original grill cloth is in good shape with some minor fraying in areas. The Reverb knob is missing its silver insert. The Fender baffle logo is missing but a replacement can easily be sourced if you so desire. The aforementioned service was done August of 2022 so it's in tip-top operating shape.
