The Michael Landau Coma Stratocaster is more than a tribute—it’s a living, breathing reflection of an artist always pushing forward.
Having shaped the sound of countless albums over four decades, Michael Landau is a guitarist whose impact can hardly be overstated. A true L.A. session legend and “player’s player,” Landau’s soulful, dynamic, and endlessly inventive style has made him a go-to collaborator across genres and generations. His unmistakable tone and touch have graced the records of icons like James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Michael Jackson, Rod Stewart, Miles Davis, Pink Floyd, Faith Hill, Bonnie Raitt, and so many more. Simply put, Mike is a cornerstone in the history of the electric guitar.
At the heart of his musical journey is "Coma," a 1959 Stratocaster that’s been his constant companion, muse, and canvas for decades. Found at a local L.A. guitar shop when Landau was just 16, the Strat had already been modified—a fact that gave him free rein to keep personalizing it to fit his evolving needs. From all-night studio sessions to high-energy gigs, Coma has seen it all. Its half-stripped Dakota Red finish and hand-drawn "Coma" graphic make it unmistakable (a Coma sticker is included in the case), but this guitar’s true legacy lies in its countless configurations. Over the years, Coma has worn an array of pickups, hardware setups, and bridges, each reflecting the ever-shifting needs of an artist in motion.
The Michael Landau Coma Stratocaster captures the essence of this legendary instrument as it stands today. Featuring custom ML Ultra Noiseless Strat neck-and-middle pickups, a Wide Range humbucker at the bridge, and a 6-screw vintage-style tremolo, it’s every bit as versatile and nuanced as the man himself. The faded red satin lacquer finish and Floyd Rose route nod to its well-loved history, while modern enhancements make it ready for any stage or studio.
