This guitar's top comes from a collection of salvaged logs used to construct a raft outside and Alaskan logging camp.
This Collings OM, built from Hawaiian Koa and reclaimed Alaskan Spruce, is constructed on their style-1 platform in order to keep the appointments austere and focus on what's special about the guitar -- its tone woods. The soundboard comes from a collection of salvaged logs used to construct a raft outside and Alaskan logging camp. Dubbed "Blue" Spruce because of the color it acquires after years underwater absorbing tint from iron nails leeching into it, this top can be thought of as what it is ~ super-old Sitka. Coupled with Koa back and sides, the "Blue" Spruce top yields warmth and fundamental power; and as you might imagine, the sound is on the dry & sweet side without excessive overtones. This is a very woody-sounding Collings OM, for those on the hunt for such a guitar; and it responds beautifully to the lightest touch. For just a taste of what it can do, witness its crystal-clear voice in the accompanying video featuring Boston-based musician, Jacqui Armbruster. This one-off, highly customized guitar is priced with a hardshell case.
