Description
This 2004 Collings MF5 Deluxe Varnish is the second instrument in inventory formerly owned by the legendary Chris Hillman.
Please examine the close up photos when assessing its condition. This mandolin has traveled the world, logging countless hours on stage and in the studio -- and it's got the wear to prove it.
As with Hillman's MF5-O currently in stock, this mandolin isn't for those squeamish about a few scrapes and dings (you'll find plenty of both here). In the accompanying letter, Hillman states his belief that what's special about this mandolin is the tone--and we're inclined to agree. Warm, open and bell-like, this mandolin delivers the classic bluegrass sound with Collings's trademark clarity and crispness.
As MF5 models go, this is a standout -- and with very low action as it's currently set up (a bluegrass player inclined to raise it a bit would doubtlessly discover that this mandolin has even more to give). Priced with Airloom Deluxe hard case & case cover.
