In the market for a killer humbucker-equipped guitar that retains all the things that make the vintage LP Specials great, but at the same time improves upon the formula? This is your guitar.
Born out of the idea of having an old mid/late 50s Gibson LP Special modded for humbuckers, this 290 aims at capturing that slab Mahogany body tone with the bigger, clearer, and sweeter tones of humbucker pickups - Throbak ER-MXV's, to be exact.
Coupled with a Mahogany body and MojoAxe wraparound tailpiece, this is a 290 that rewards the player with incredible dynamic response and frequency range, and an increased immediacy of attack, and fundamental power.
For our money, few builders do a Doghair finish better than Collings, and what better way to showcase that finish than on this 290? The minimal appointments allow the finish to truly shine while also giving it a vintage-inspired nod, and yet, there's a sleekness to it that presents as pseudo-modern. This is where the idea of old school and new school collide, highlighting one another to provide something special.
As always, fit and finish is second to none. A Collings guitar will spoil you that way; there's a level of refinement and consistency few builders are able to maintain quite like our friends from Austin, TX. Feel, playability, ergonomics, and weight combine to make one truly capable guitar.

"Every day we try to make a better guitar, every day. You're trying to reach for more, trying to do better, not trying to do the same. A lot of companies are trying to do the same, and that's okay - that's their deal. We're trying to stretch that. Our goal is a little more."
