From fingerstyle to Bluegrass and beyond, this 000 can handle it all.
What To Know
Way back in the late 1990's, former TME partner and Martin OM aficionado, Eric Schoenberg, handled a lot of the acoustic guitar ordering. Obsessed with the vintage Martin sound, he went to great lengths to find modern builders that could approximate that dry, woody tone only found in old Martins. Bill Collings was on a slightly different path, seeking to improve upon the past, and offer something louder, cleaner and better equipped to outshine other guitars in the room. As I recall (having worked under Eric back then) this 0001A Adirondack Cutaway was the closest he felt Collings got to his ideal (at least until they came out with their Traditional line 2 decades later!). It has the balance and articulation Schoenberg was after and the volume, power, and focus all too familiar to Collings owners. And at 3lbs 7oz, this particular example gets much closer to a Martin weight. The end result is a guitar that delivers tonal complexity, copious overtones, and clean, woody output with tons of headroom for anyone wishing to drive this guitar from fingerstyle into Bluegrass territory.
