This SL Junior LTD, of which b3 is currently doing a very small run, finds Gene Baker exploring the merits of the stripped down Les Paul Junior/Special model.

With each b3 we receive from Gene Baker and his small team of artisans, we feel like Gene's creativity knows no bounds. We were just looking back at some of the b3's we've sold over the last 2 years and it's striking how many variations of both his SL and Phoenix models we've been fortunate to experience - all gorgeous, incredibly well-made, killer sounding, and let's face it, just plain cool.

This SL Junior, of which b3 is currently doing a small run, finds Gene exploring the merits of the stripped down Les Paul Junior/Special model. These 'student model' Gibsons are tone machines with little in the way of bells or whistles but, man oh man, do they ever sound amazing!

Korina, set-neck construction, short scale, wraptail bridge, and P90s = timeless and always a blast. Gene captures that essence with this TV Yellow SL Jr but folds in some really cool and creative twists - his Les Paul-meets-Stratocaster body shape, split parallelogram inlays, and a split-able humbucker in the bridge position.

What makes this 'blended' approach to a guitar's design amazing is that you can access elements of each guitar's strengths in one instrument - a Les Paul Special's power and simplicity, a Les Paul's punch (via the bridge humbucker), a clear yet full neck pickup tone, all with a Fender-like feel via the body shape. Don't get us wrong - this guitar leans more to the Gibson side of the fence, it's that the SL's body shape balances better and feels better in hand than the traditional Les Paul shape (though of course we love those too).

Gene Baker of b3 Guitars is a legend in the guitar world, long known for his flawless builds and meticulous attention to detail. He was a Senior Master Builder at the Fender Custom Shop, also worked at the Gibson Custom Shop, and was the builder responsible for building the Koll, Gustavsson, Fano, Schroeder, and Giffin guitars under the Premier Builder's Guild brand to name a few highlights. Oh, and Robben Ford slung a Baker guitar for many, many years (as have many other pros).
