Ampeg's Jet model was in many ways a precursor to the famous Reverberocket that followed. It's lightweight 1x12 cabinet, 6V6 power section, and octal tube preamp brings some rich, fat, tube tone that holds its own against similar Fenders of the era.

Why We Love This

This 1961 Ampeg Jet offers up some serious tone in a small package! Offered beginning in 1958, this early 60s example retains the first version circuit that is unquestionably the coolest sounding version. The 6SL7 octal preamp section combined with the 6V6 power section yield some great low volume edge of breakup chime all the way to tweed-like roar. The cherry on top is the inclusion of an amazing sounding tube-driven tremolo!

This amp is in rather great shape considering it's covered in the more fragile (but equally cool) Random Navy Flair wrap, with just some light edge curling and delamination from the cabinet. The original leather handle remains quite healthy too! The circuit is unmodified and features the original transformers along with the original Jensen P12S speaker (dated the 48th week of 1960).

When you factor in the price of similar vintage Fender amps, these Ampegs deliver some serious tone for the buck!
