The first TK Smith guitar to grace our space, this Roadmaster model embodies everything we love about TK's artistry and design.

2024 TK Smith Roadmaster just into the shop on consignment! As longtime fans of TK's work, we had not previously had the privilege of playing his guitars... until now.

The Roadmaster is arguably one of the coolest electric models on the market. There's no denying the Bigsby influence in TK's builds, but that doesn't mean they don't have their own distinct personality and voice. This '24 build is just that - custom machined hardware, custom wound pickups, hand-painted pickguard, etc., all with a certain aesthetic, sound, and feel that is undoubtedly unique to the brand.

This build features slightly more conventional pairings of tonewoods often found in the traditional west coast electric guitar spec - Swamp Ash for the body and a beautifully figured billet Maple for the neck, capped with a nice Rosewood fingerboard. Sonically, however, it speaks a much different language than anything you're likely to experience coming out of Fullerton.

The custom wound single coil pickups have a bright, clear, and well-defined voice, and can easily be heard in the midst of a band mix. Note definition is particularly great, which lends this Roadmaster to taking on melodic work and complex chord voicings with ease.

The neck carve is a robust V with a nice even/moderate taper. Substantial, yes... but still quite comfortable to play, and certainly befitting of the style. The inlays remind us of some of the great mid-century lap steels, and the peghead has show-stopping looks with a beautiful Lacewood veneer and custom inlay. The pickguard also features some of TK's great artistic sensibilities by way of his 'birds' motif. It adds another dimension to the overall aesthetic of this great Roadmaster.

Weighing in right around 7.5lbs it's a very comfortable guitar to play seated or strapped, and feels nicely balanced. It has remained in excellent condition with seemingly very light use from prior ownership, and is currently set up with flatwound strings and a nice medium/medium-low action.

Paired with a padded gig bag.
