"This is one of the best new guitars I've ever played." ~TME Customer

One of our local customers said it best after picking up a new Thorn Piatta and we couldn't agree more. Of the first five we've received (all but two sold before we could even list them), every single one has been remarkably consistent in feel, playability, and tone. In other words: Ron Thorn doesn’t make bad guitars, period.

That’s no surprise to those who’ve followed his work. A former Fender Masterbuilder and head of the Custom Shop, Ron’s approach blends deep experience with a relentless pursuit of better design. He’s known for using modern tools like CNC machines not as shortcuts, but as tools of refinement, wielded by someone who knows exactly what to listen and look for.

The Piatta is light as air - almost disarmingly so the first time you pick it up. This stunning, lightly aged Gemini Blue (the original prototype, no less) clocks in at just 6lbs 2oz, and every other one we’ve had has landed right in that range. The result? A perfectly balanced, agile, lightning-quick instrument with no headstock dive and a ton of personality.

That feel carries through in the playing experience: smooth fretwork, clean lines, effortless playability, and killer tones. Ron's own Rod 90 (neck) and GT 95 (bridge) pickups push the Piatta into punchy, snarling, yet clear and articulate territory.

Through a British-voiced 15-watt amp (from a new builder we’ll be shouting about very soon), this guitar just comes alive. Rock players especially will find a lot to love here, but, this guitar can flex into just about any lane you want.

All told, it’s just outstanding stuff. But really, what else would you expect from Ron Thorn?

PS - Check out Ron's Knuckle Wrap bridge!! Such a cool design.
