Hey, someone put maple in my rosewood!
Remember when MTV used to feature actual music programs?! If you do, then you're in the right demographic to own this guitar. When Martin introduced their first MTV model in 1996, we laughed. Why would anyone want a dreadnought with a back made of two different tonewoods! Well, who were we to judge? They sold close to 700 of those beauties. So, why not do it again? Released in 2004, this MTV-2 was the followup model. More limited in its production, with only 200 made, we suspect that Martin wasn't sitting on as many half-sets of maple as they were on mahogany in the first run;-) In Martin's original description of the model, they touted that the bass back half of Indian rosewood emphasized the low tones while the treble side maple brought out more shimmery highs. Much like an Oreo cookie or a Hoodsie ice cream cup, the two flavors combine to deliver an experience one could simply describe as sweet!
