The Harmony H42 Stratotone has long been considered one of the most unique guitar designs of the 20th Century. With its large carve neck-through construction and diminutive body size, it offers unparalleled comfort and a uniquely inviting playing experience.
H42's are a slide guitar favorite, with an exceptional amount of resonance and sustain due to the aforementioned neck-through design. The guitar simply rings like a tuning fork, exciting the original "Hershey Bar" single coil pickup in delivering some beautiful harmonically rich tones with a warm, deep response.
The stack-knob configuration mimics the compact body shape, keeping control layout nice and tidy on the original single-ply black pickguard. The toggle switch is a Tone Bypass circuit that activates or deactivates the tone control.
This is a fantastic and complete example in original condition. The Yellow finish and "Harmo-metal" body edges are very clean. Peghead graphics are clear and undisturbed, and the original 3-on-a-plate tuners work very well. The pickguard is crack-free and all electronics are original, with the factory potentiometer code reading '630' indicating the 30th week of production in 1956. The bridge screws appear to be the only replacement parts on the guitar, which would've originally been of the slot head variety.
