This Mendocino offers a fresh twist on an award-winning design, channeling Collings Julian Lage 470 vibes while remaining unmistakably Grez.
Our newest Mendocino from Grez Guitars boasts a gorgeous Brown Sunburst top, TV Jones T-Armond pickups in humbucker-sized mounts, ebony pickup rings, an ebony pickguard, and Mother-of-Pearl fingerboard dots. With its bound body, fingerboard, and headstock, this Mendocino offers players a tastefully upgraded / upscale vibe while retaining the musicality we prize in Barry Grzebik's work.
Crafted from a single piece of hollowed-out Honduran mahogany, this guitar is incredibly lightweight, perfectly balanced, and exceptionally resonant. It’s the kind of instrument that begs to be played—offering a slightly chunky, late-’50s Gibson-inspired neck carve, a slinky feel, and stellar tones whether plugged in or played acoustically.
The T-Armond pickups truly shine in this build, delivering open, airy tones with killer chime. Think Gretsch Duo Jet-esque vibes with added versatility. Through our Carr Rambler, the Mendocino easily achieves Gretsch-like sparkle mixed with the warmth and punch of a great ES-335—the very design philosophy behind this model. Add some gain, and you’ve got swampy, low-fi goodness that’s endlessly inspiring.
