If you're looking for classic slope shoulder Gibson tone with a little extra punch and clarity, look no further than this 1965 Epiphone FT-79 Texan.
Likely an earlier '65 example with a transitional 1 5/8" nut width, this FT-79 Texan shares its body with the venerable J-45/J-50 but with a long scale 25 1/2" neck. With that change in scale length comes a noticeable increase in low and low-mid punch and definition, along with clearer, more defined trebles. This is a particularly excellent sounding example - possibly the best sounding one we've had if we're gauging staff reactions - and proves to be strong competition to a similar era Martin D-18.
This one has survived nearly 60 years in great shape, both cosmetically and structurally. It shows varying degrees of lacquer checking throughout along with nicks and dings commensurate with age, but has held up very well.
It was refretted about 10 years ago by Jason Burns and plays wonderfully, with a very comfortable Medium C neck profile. The guitar has never had a strap button installed in the neck heel as well.
Priced with an aftermarket hardshell case.
