Description

This limited Collings 000-42 Koa is a reminder of why we hold Collings Guitars in such high esteem. Just when we think we've heard them all, Collings sends a guitar that totally astounds us and further cements their place as America's premier guitar builder.

It's not the wood selection, or the elegant appointments, or its flawless build quality. These are all a given with Collings! No, it's the sound. And to be more specific; it's ALL of the sounds that are in this guitar. It's got that amazing Collings clarity and articulation when you do single line runs and that lovely string of overtones when you hit a few select notes that seem to just go on for ever! Throw a capo anywhere on the neck and be struck by how alive it is in all registers. Strum it and you hear elements of older Martins and Gibsons. Dig in and you're back in the modern world with that musical zing and growl.

If this were a rosewood or mahogany guitar, you might get some of these elements but koa seems to offer the best of both worlds. Especially the koa that Collings sources. It's not just visually appealing; it has the tonal properties that only a handful of guitar builders can recognize prior to the build. There are lots of koa guitars on the market that try to dazzle and entice with exceptional figure. But there are only a handful that deliver the kind of response and wide spectrum of tone found in this delightful 000-42. We often advise our customers to never buy a guitar based solely on looks but it's nice to know that if you ever get tired of playing this guitar (!?) you can spend the rest of your downtime just looking at it.
