Description

"Here is the ultimate in a solid body Gibson Electric Spanish Guitar - players rave about its extremely low, smooth frets, and easy playing action, call it the "fretless wonder." Now with three humbucking, adjustable pickups, this new and improved 'Les Paul Custom' guitar has increased power, greater sustaining, and a clear, resonant, sparkling tone, with the widest range of tonal colorings. Finished in solid ebony color for rich contrast with the gold-plated metal fittings." - 1958 Gibson Catalog

Introduced in 1954 at the Chicago NAMM show, the LP Custom was presented as the ultimate Les Paul. To be sure, it's the most elegant LP model with its multi-ply binding, split diamond headstock inlay (borrowed from the Super 400), ebony board with pearl block inlays (borrowed from an L5), three humbuckers, and was the first LP to feature the Tune-O-matic bridge. Players like Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, and Danny Gatton are known for playing a three pickup LP Custom (while we can't confirm this, it's rumored this particular LP Custom may have belonged to the late Steve Clark of Def Leppard fame. It's just a cool story, no?).

Condition: Excellent. All original save for a very well-done refret (59 style wire), a new nut, and replaced tuners (Grovers, originals are included in case). The setup feels great, and as advertised in the Gibson catalog quote above, it's incredibly easy to play.

Be sure to check out Boston-based guitar legend, Duke Levine, playing this guitar in the video link. An exceptional guitar by any measure! Priced with original case.
