A masterfully executed take on the classic Fullerton single-cut, this Rodriguez oozes old school vibe and feel.
Why We Love This
"This guy gets it" is the line we keep saying here in the shop whenever we talk about Tommy Rodriguez and his fabulous guitars.
This recent build of his just came in from the original owner who had purchased it directly from Tommy, and is the perfect representation of a more "traditional" style of the likes we haven't seen from the uber-talented Virgina based luthier.
Finished in a gorgeous Ice Blue Metallic finish reminiscent of some of those great California custom colors of the 1960s, it presents as a fairly straight-ahead mid 60s inspired tele. However, the lightweight Mahogany body and reclaimed Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard add some of their own charm, tonality, and individuality to the guitar.
Loaded up with a set of Fralin Blues Specials, there's equal parts twang and kerrang available at your disposal. Having both pickups on is particularly satisfying, with a blooming and sparkly response that has a slight mid scoop - the perfect tone for those R&B and Motown tunes!
Playability is - no surprise - off the charts. Tommy's guitars play as good as any guitar you'll come across. Perfect fret work and setup, a truly wonderful Soft V neck carve, and top quality Callaham hardware allow for some effortless playing.
We had Tommy go through this guitar recently and give it his blessing - about as close as you'll get to a Certified Preowned Rodriguez if you ask us! It's in excellent condition with virtually no evidence of true play wear. The original TKL hardshell case is also in excellent shape.
We can't say enough about Tommy's guitars, and never pass on the opportunity to share our love for his instruments with the guitar world!
