This this early Signal Red A-Type? It’s a piece of the Powers Electric origin story. One of the first sprayed in this color, it features early-run PF42 pickups, a pre-serial Taylor-stamped sticker under the backplate, and wide-banded knobs that show how the design has subtly evolved.

By now, you’ve probably heard the story behind Andy Powers’ A-Type and how its design pulls from his Southern California roots: surfboards, skate decks, and hotrods all wrapped into a bold, original electric. But what doesn’t get talked about enough is just how consistently great these guitars are. We've played dozens since the launch in June 2023, and they remain some of the most dialed-in, inspiring electrics we've had through the shop.

That consistency is only part of the story. What really stands out - 2 years in - is how the A-Type still feels just as exciting and fresh as it did on day one. We’re not talking about how the build itself is aging (zero concerns here, it should be noted). We mean conceptually - how these guitars continue to move us. They still spark curiosity. They still inspire play. They still feel like the future.

Andy set out to build something new for players who, in his words, “don’t want to be a stereotype.” And this early Signal Red A-Type? It’s a piece of that origin story. One of the first sprayed in this color, it features early-run PF42 pickups, a pre-serial Taylor-stamped sticker under the backplate, and wide-banded knobs that show how the design has subtly evolved.

Please note: This guitar does exhibit a few bumps and bruises, namely as shallow indentations on the top near the trem bar (looks like the trem bar dug into the top while being transported in the case).
